Google Doodle für 115 Jahre Röntgenstrahlen
Am späten Freitagabend des 8. November 1895 entdeckte Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen die in einigen Ländern nach ihm benannten Röntgenstrahlen, auch wenn er selber den Begriff X-Strahlen bevorzugt hat. Google spendiert zum Jubiläum ein eigenes animiertes Doodle, welches den inneren Aufbau des Google-Logos zeigt und so manche Details zu Tage fördert.
Für seine Entdeckung erhielt Röntgen den ersten Nobelpreis der Physik, der jemals verliehen wurde.
Der Microsoft Internet Explorer rutscht unter 50% Marktanteil
Nachdem laut NetMarketShare der Internet Explorer von Microsoft im April 2010 erstmals weltweit unter 60% Marktanteil gerutscht ist, gönnt StatCounter dem Browser im September 2010 nur mehr knapp 50% Marktanteil. Zugleich geht Google Chrome wie eine Rakete ab und lässt die 10%-Marke hinter sich.

NetMarketShare ist das toleranter und straft die Redmonder nicht ganz so massiv ab.
Vorerst kein Firefox-Browser fürs iPhone
Firefox Home geistert seit einiger Zeit durchs mobile Internet und bietet eine Art Firefox-Feeling auch auf dem iPhone und ähnlichen passenden Apple-Produkten. Nur ist die Anwendung eben kein Browser, sondern bietet lediglich Zugriff auf Chronik, geöffnete Tabs, Lesezeichen und intelligente Adressleiste des Destop-Firefox-Browsers, wenn dieser das Add-on Firefox Sync installiert hat. Trotzdem kam die Hoffnung auf, dass Mozilla sich nun auch in Richtung Apple vorwagt, eine Hoffnung, die aber vor kurzem wieder zerstört wurde. Der zugehörige Blog-Eintrag meint ganz lapidar:
We are working to bring as much of your Firefox experience as possible to Firefox Home. People have asked about adding more browser-like features to Firefox Home, but there are technical and logistical restrictions that make it difficult, if not impossible, to build the full Firefox browser for the iPhone. We are focused on building Firefox Home as a rich, cloud-based application and making it a valuable product that people will continue to love and use.
Scheinbar hindern technische und logistische Beschränkungen Mozilla an der Entwicklung eines vollwertigen iPhone-Browsers. Solange dies so bleibt, ist Opera Mini wohl die beste alternative Wahl für das iPhone.
Google Doodle für 50 Jahre Familie Feuerstein
Auf den Tag genau heute vor 50 Jahren ist auf ABC die Familie Feuerstein zum ersten Mal ausgestrahlt worden. Google spendiert zum Jubiläum ein eigenes Doodle, zur Abwechslung blieb diesmal das Google-CI unberücksichtigt.

Charity Foundation – Bauernfang per Fax
Die Nigeria Connection oder Tränendrüsen-Briefe per E-Mail kennt man ja mittlerweile zur Genüge. Dass diese wankenden Gestalten jetzt aber auch in aller Herrgottsfrühe per Fax den Hausfrieden brechen und zudem Tinte bzw. Papier auf Kosten des Empfängers verschwenden, ist mir in bislang nicht untergekommen.
